The Resurrection: The Christian Distinctive
The Resurrection
I have set Yahwah continually before me, because he is at my right hand
I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad
And my glory [inner self] rejoices
My body too shall rest and confidently dwell in safety
For you will not abandon me to Sheol, neither will you suffer your holy one
to see corruption. You will show me the path of life;
in your presence is fullness of joy, at your right hand are pleasures forevermore
The resurrection is the key distinctive of the body of Christ. We are the only community on earth who have a resurrected leader as our head. The resurrection of Jesus Christ means: He has conquered death once and
for all. It is the event which makes our life make sense. We must learn to draw on Resurrection power.
If you confess with you mouth the Lord Jesus
And believe in your heart God raised him from the dead
You shall be saved, for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness
And with the mouth he confesses resulting in salvation. Rom 10: 9-11)
You see faith in God raising Jesus from the dead has an exact result: righteousness.
Jesus is risen from the dead. He is now as the resurrected on Lord. Lord of all.
But what Lord is he. Paul goes on and quotes Joel 2:
For Scriptures says: Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed
Elohim raised Jesus from the dead. Get this down in your spirit. The faith in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from among all those dead ones out there leads to God’s righteousness. We do not seek to establish our own righteousness we seek God’s righteousness.
Christ is the goal and set purpose of the Torah for righteousness
To every one who believes…the righteousness based on faith says:
The Word is near you , in your mouth and in your heart
That is the word of faith which are preaching
If you confess with you mouth Jesus as Lord
Believe in you heart God raised him from the dead
You shall be saved. You will be delivered.
You will be saved.
Jesus says that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. We need to fill out mouths
With the abundnat understanding of the resurrection. For from that abundance flows forth the confession Yeshua hu Adon. Paul wrote:
ean homologeesees (confess) en tooi stomati sou Kurion Iesoun
Kai en teei kardia sou hoti ho Theos auton eegeiren ek nekroon
Sotheesee.
Paul defines that this as the word of faith which we preach. There are two actions and three results.
First action: Believe in the heart that God raises Jesus from the dead: Result: righteousness
Second Action: Confession with the Mouth : The Lord Jesus. Jesus must be on your lips.
In the hearts faith there is dikaousuneen, in the mouths confession sooteerian.
The Meaning of Resurrection
The word resurrection is a Greek noun: Anastasis. The action involved in getting Mashiach dead body out of the grave is the verb eegeiren. The event of Jesus resurrection began a new world. It began a new creation. It began the future world. It answered the question is there life for the body after the grave with a resounding Yes! Only the Church has the privilege of proclaimed a physically resurrected saviour. Jesus in being raised from the dead never to die again is unique. He alone has accomplished this. Every religious community on earth on earth which follows a god is built on the teachings of a man who is dead. Only the Church is built on the teaching of a man who came back having been dead.
God raised him from the dead
Theos auton eegeiren ek nekroon (Greek)
G-d raised him from Mesim (Orthodox brit ha hadasha)
Di Alaha aqimeh min beit miteh (Aramaic)
Sheha Elohim heqimo mibein metim (Hebrew Bible Society)
When people die we mourn and we grieve. There bodies go into the grave and turn back to dust. This process of rotting away is called decay or corruption. We have all seen dead bodies and for mankind death has been the final certainty. People are going to die. They do not come back. Generation have reutrned to dust. Generations have mourned their loved ones. But in all history there is one who died but did not make death his home, because God raised him from the dead. Paul lays out for use the gospel he preached.
Now I make know to you brethren, the gospel which I preached to you
Which also you received (paralabete),
in which also you stand (esteekate),
by which also you are saved (sozesthe),
If you hold fast (kastachete) the word which I preached to you,
unless you believed in vain (eikee)
For I delivered to you among the first things what I also received
1 That Christ died on behalf of our sins
2 According to the scriptures
3 And that he was buried
4 And that he had been raised on the third day
5 According to the scriptures
6 And that he was seen by Kephas
7 Then by the twelve
8 Afterwards he was seen by over 500 brothers at one time
9 Of whom the majority remain until now though some fell asleep
10 Afterwards he was seen by Jacob
11 Then by all the apostles
12 And last of all … he was seen by me.
The first things or to some the things of first importance. Christ died for our sins. Christ was buried and on the third day he was raised from the dead. He then appeared to at least 515 people some of whom were still alive back in 55 AD, 1950 years ago. Paul is writing 25 years after the resurrection to a Church in Greece. And he could tell them “I saw the Lord”. Peter Saw the Lord. Many brothers still alive saw the Lord.
But what if Christ has not been raised from the dead? Does it matter could we not just live a good life?
There were a group in Corinth who began to doubt the anastasis.
How important is the resurrection?
The Resurrection
Prophesied from afar
Psalm 16 My body too shall rest and confidently dwell in safety
For you will not abandon me to Sheol, neither will you suffer your holy one
to see corruption.
Isaiah 25 He will destroy on this Mountain [Zion] the covering of the face that is cast over the
Head of all people , and the veil that is woven and spread over all nations. He will swallow up death- He will abolish death forever; and Adonai Yahwah will wipe
Away tears from off all faces
Isaiah 26 Your dead shall live, the bodies of our dead shall rise. You who dwell in the dust,
Awake and sing for joy.
Psalm 2 I will declare the decree of Yahwah: he said to me, You are my Son this day I have
Begotten thee. Ask of me and I will gove you the nations as your inheritance the ends of the earth as your possession.
Prophesied by Jesus when the time was near
John 11 Even now I know that whatever you ask of God he will give you. Jesus said to her [Martha] Your brother shall rise again. Martha said I know he will rise again at the resurrection at the last day. Jesus said to her I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me shall live even if he dies and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this? She said to him. Yes Lord I have believe that you are the Chrsit , the Son of God, even he who comes into the world.
Mark 9: 31 The Son of Man is being delivered into the hands of men. And they will put him to death;
And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.
John 12 The hour has come for the son of man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it will remain itself alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
